ST. James’ Church, Rigsby – article supplied and words by Abigail Jones
On 17th August St James Church Rigsby was closed for public access whilst the safety of the Steeple and the Bell Tower were investigated. This arising architects report shows the spire needs taking down to just below bell hanging level and rebuilding at an estimated cost of £40-50k (see image below for details). The Church has a £5-15k shortfall in meeting the cost of these mandatory repairs and so that the church can continue to hold occasional services, including weddings and funerals, fundraising is necessary.

Sadly though the usual mechanisms to help raise money for such causes are hampered by Covid & its associated lockdown. We are therefore appealing for donations to help save this Grade II Listed Building for future generations to enjoy. If you would like to contribute then payments can be made either by BACS to the Lloyds account in the name of ‘PCC ALFORD WITH RIGSBY’, Sort Code: 30-95-22, Account Number: 00652232, using Payment Reference: RG105. Alternatively, cheques can be made payable to ‘PCC Alford with Rigsby’ with reference RG105 written on the back and sent to the Treasurer Stuart Hodgkins at Farriers Lodge, The Maltings, Alford, LN13 9TS. We hope that on future gloomy days the Church will once again be bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, whilst the worshippers sing lustily – if not always tunefully – as they have done for generations.
